Close to the big city, yet peacefully rural
Horseman's Ranch is nestled in the northern portion of the Lakes and Prairies region of Texas. Known locally as Texoma, the area is close to Oklahoma and yet is distinctly Texan. Lake Texoma (only a few miles away) is situated on the Red River, which defines the Oklahoma/Texas border. One of the largest reservoirs in the U.S., the lake attracts over 6 million visitors a year. Marinas, parks and wildlife areas abound. There are riding trails in several locations around this beautiful lake.
Now, to the prairies! Horseman's Ranch sits in an area of sandy loam, which is considered most desirable by horse breeders and trainers. No muddy gumbo allowed! And talk about prairie grasses and wildflowers. Spring is awesome at Horseman's Ranch.
The ranch is located in Cooke County near the tiny town of Callisburg, about 2.5 miles north of the Callisburg ISD high school. During rush hour (before and after school) the traffic picks up a bit. But while school is in session, the roads around Horseman's Ranch are so quiet that local dogs snooze peacefully in the center of the blacktop. They are seldom awakened. Nice, huh?
Ranch mail is delivered through Whitesboro, TX, which has the nearest Post Office, about 12 miles east of HR on 82 Highway. Whitesboro is in the heart of AQHA horse breeding country and is known as the Equine Vet Specialist Capital of Texas due to its strong population of Equine Health practitioners. Surrounded by breeding and performance horse ranches, Whitesboro Equine Vet clinics cater to the needs of reproduction, performance and general health. Surgery is available on site in many facilities. There are specialists for just about anything equine related within about 25 miles with equine surgeons that can perform about any surgery on a horse that can be performed in a hospital on its human companions. The community is also quite active, hosting the annual Peanut Festival each fall. The population explodes for this popular event, as well as for the July 4th rodeo. No big box stores here, but plenty of specialty, including Denards and the Longhorn Ranch General Store.
Nearby communities include: Sherman/Denison (birthplace of Dwight Eisenhower); Tioga (birthplace of Gene Autry); Gainesville (home of the Frank Buck Zoo); Denton and McKinney (artistic communities) and Decatur (home of NRS World and 8-time PRCA All Around World Champion Trevor Brazile). As a resident of Horseman's Ranch, you will receive the NRS employee discount at NRSworld.com and at all NRS/David's Western Store locations for all your western lifestyle needs. Decatur is also the home of NRS Training Center where you can attend a variety of roping & horsemanship clinics taught by pros like Trevor Brazile, Patrick Smith & Trey Johnson.
Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington are the big cities in the area, with Fort Worth Stockyards about 80 miles to the south, DFW airport about 60 miles southwest and Oklahoma City Fairgrounds about 150 miles to the north. Winstar World Casino, the world’s third largest is only 15 miles up I-35N to Thackerville, Oklahoma. World Class entertainment is available at local prices. Yes, close to the action, but far enough away to leave the stress behind. It truly is about location, location, location. And ours is one of the best. Come see for yourself.
